Sometimes a big or lifted pickup truck can make it difficult to see behind you and in your blind spots, this is a great reason to get the PhantomX ICU Car Cam System. This “Shark Fin” antenna type of full-time rear view driving camera replaces your rear view mirror if you have one at all by adding our ICU 9.66″ HD Touch Screen Mirror Monitor, which displays video from the PhantomX Car Camera mounted to your vehicle’s roof. This type of camera system is ideal for your Ford Transit or Dodge Sprinter Utility Van because many of them don’t even have a rear view mirror or rear window to see behind you when driving. The Phantom ICU Car Camera is the Premium rear view system, but recently we designed The Cylon ICU Car Camera for a new C8 Vette, C7 and C6, as well as other exotic coupes with minimal spacing on the roof between the targa top and rear hatch. They Cylon incorporates the exact same camera system as the Phantom. There are two installation type of ICU Car Cameras: “Bolt” Mount and “Sticky” Mount. “Bolt” mount means you need a hole on the top surface of the roof or trunk for the bolt to secure and run the wire into the vehicle. We also have the “Sticky” mount type of camera that can installed on a rear hatch/trunk with 2-way tape in order to mount the camera next to a gap between the body and the hatch/trunk lid, by running the wire from outside the vehicle surface down the gap into the interior, no need for any holes. Below is a pic of The Cylon ICU Car Camera installed on an 2021 Chevrolet Corette (using the “Sticky” mount system). At the bottom is a picture of a 2007 Nissan Frontier with a Phantom ICU Car Camera (installed using the “Bolt mount system).
Most vehicles will have different needs and configurations to consider when it comes to choosing a Rear View Car Camera. We have wide variety or ICU Car Cameras to suit most vehicles and drivers, such as smaller or larger sizes, and even wired or wireless systems. Some vehicles may require the removal of their Rooftop Antenna, inwhich case you have some options as well. For instance, if you don’t actually use your vehicle’s radio because you use a smart phone as your entertainment system, you can actually remove the rooftop antenna and install the ICU Car Camera in it’s place. Same will apply for a satellite antenna that is mounted on the roof near the rear window. Not all vehicles come with a factory roof antenna, but those that do have one will vary in size and mounting holes. For those vehicles with No Factory Roof Antenna or Small Factory Roof Antenna, we recommend installing our standard Phantom ICU Car Camera. For those with large Factory Roof Antennas, we recommend the PhantomW ICU Car Camera (wide body), which has a wider footprint to cover more area that may have a large mounting hole or multiple holes. For tall vehicles such as utility vans like the Ford Transit, we recommend the PhantomX ICU Car Camera, with it’s taller stance the camera angle allows you to see over the end of your roof and down closer behind your vehicle. See Dimension Diagrams below to give you an idea of which can fit your roof top best for installation.
A new Antenna Camera replaces your current antenna on your car, truck, or van. The ICU Car Camera is the first ever antenna camera which provides the best view of traffic and your blind spots. This antenna camera has a wide-angle lens that can see cars next to you while you drive in traffic or you can even use it for parking spaces. There are three options when changing your current “shark fin” antenna to a new antenna camera: Option 1 would be to completely remove your old antenna and and simply install the ICU Car Camera in it’s place. Option 2 would be to move your old antenna to the inside of the vehicle such as between the roof liner or other location. Option 3 would be to drill a new hole in the roof for your old antenna and move it to the new location then simply install the new ICU Car Camera in the old antenna’s roof hole.
