FAQ

Q. Is the ICU Car Camera® a backup camera?
A. NO! Typical backup cameras are installed on the back of the trunk lid or on the vehicle bumper. Our patent pending ICU Car Camera® is a FULL-TIME Rear view camera to see behind you and in your blind spots while you drive or backup. It is far superior and has a much better angle of view than typical rear view mirror. Normally our camera is installed on top of the vehicle roof, and sometimes on top of the trunk of some convertibles.

Q. Is the ICU Car Cam System™ easy to install?
A. YES! Our patent pending proprietary “plug’n’play’ system can be configured in multiple ways. The standard ICU Car Cam System™ comes with all necessary easy to follow instructions. Includes all cables needed to power the system from your vehicle’s electrical system, but you have the option to power the ICU Car Cam System™ with a 12V DC lithium battery or 12V cigarette lighter DC power cable (each sold separately). Once 12V power is connected to the monitor, simply plug in the ICU Car Camera® cable to the monitor once the camera is installed. Installation of the roof top ICU Car Cameras may be fairly simple to difficult depending on the vehicle. If you have a factory roof top antenna with hole already in place then it will be the easiest type of installation. It may be necessary to drill a hole on the roof of your vehicle, this will not damage the vehicle if done correctly! Professional installation by an authorized installer is always recommended.

Q. What comes with the ICU Car Cam System™?
A. The Phantom System comes with the Phantom ICU Car Camera, 9.66″ IPS Touch Screen HD Video Monitor with built-in Dash Cam and DVR, 12V DC Cigarette lighter Power Adapter (3.5m), and Camera Cable (6m). The Hornet, Scorpion, Vulture, Blackbird, or Blackbird-X ICU Car Cameras® come with The 7″ (dia.) LCD ICU Video Monitor that clips to your standard rear view mirror with remote control, Video Monitor DC Power/Auxiliary Cable, 2 meter(6.5 ft.) camera extension cable, mounting hardware, and instruction manual. For the wireless system: The Drone ICU Car Camera® you also get a 7″ (dia.) LCD touch screen rear view video monitor that clips to your standard rear view mirror with remote control, Video Monitor DC Power/Auxiliary Cable, 5.8 GHz wireless video receiver, AC/DC power charging cable, 12V cigarette lighter DC power cable, and instruction manual.

Q. Is there a warranty?
A. Yes. The ICU Car Camera® has a 5 year limited warranty on the outer plastic casing or “shell”, and a 2 year limited warranty on the electronic components inside the ICU Car Camera® unit. For a full explanation of the limited warranty please review the information on the Limited Liability Warranty.

Q. Will the ICU Car Cam System™ fit on my vehicle?
A. The ICU Car Camera® unit can be installed on any part of the car’s hard top roof (or trunk) where there are no obstructions such as a roof rack or antenna. The ICU Video Monitor is universal to fit any standard factory rear view mirror. Contact Us for installation details and information.

Q. Can I test the ICU Car Cam System™ before I buy?
A. Yes, a sales representative can demonstrate how the ICU Car Camera® works and even allow you to test drive the system. Contact Us for details and information. (Some restrictions may apply. Demos currently available in the Southern California area only)

Q. Can I see at night with the ICU Car Camera®?
A. Yes! In fact you can see BETTER than the view from a backup camera or a rear view mirror. The ICU Car Camera® has low light sensitivity it’s like driving with night vision and the best part is, since the ICU Car Camera® is located on top of your vehicle you get the best view of your surroundings even at night! Watch this DEMO VIDEO and see!

Q. If I only buy the ICU Car Camera® how do I see the video?
A. The ICU Car Camera® must be connected to an ICU Video Monitor (sold separately) to view the video from the camera. You can also use an ICU wireless transmitter/receiver (sold separately) that can send the video to a video monitor or an Android/IOS smart device. We recommend buying the ICU Car Cam System™ which includes the ICU 7″ Video Monitor that clips to your standard rear view mirror.

Q. Do I have to drill a hole in my car?
A. Maybe. If you currently have a satellite antenna (such as XM) factory installed on your car but it is not in use then you may remove it to allow installation of the ICU Car Camera®. We strongly recommend using a professional installer with experience installing backup cameras and vehicle antennas, or a professional automotive stereo/video installer to install the ICU Car Cam System™. We also have ICU Car Cameras® that simply stick to the rear window.

Q. Will drilling a hole in my car damage it?
A. If done correctly it will not damage your car. This hole must be properly done in order to have no adverse damage. A “STEP” Drill bit is always used for this reason because it does not damage the sheet metal or “skin” of a vehicle. Also you must use a swatch of masking tape on the hole area to avoid having the paint chip. Finally be sure to seal the edges of the bare metal with touch up paint or testers paint.

Q. What if my car has a sunroof?
A. The ICU Car Camera® unit can be installed on a car with a sunroof with a minimum of a 2″ clearance between the open position of the sunroof and the ICU Car Camera® mounting hole.

Q. What if I already have a Satellite/GPS antenna on top of my car?
A. The ICU Car Camera® unit can be installed on any part of a vehicle roof or trunk that has no obstructions in the way such as a roof rack or antenna. If you currently have a satellite antenna (such as XM) factory installed on your car but it is not in use then you may remove it to allow installation of the ICU Car Camera®. If your car has an antenna on the top of the roof then you can install the ICU Car Camera® next to it (allow a minimum distance of 2″). We strongly recommend using a professional installer with experience installing backup cameras and vehicle antennas, or a professional automotive stereo/video installer to install the ICU Car Cam System™. *Note: The Blackbird-X ICU Car Camera is made to order and requires custom design fitting for each order. Factory installed XM/Sirius antennas vary in size and configuration which will delay processing times an additional 1-2 weeks. No refunds on products with customized design.
